Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme

The voluntary Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme (WELS) is a water conservation initiative of the HKSAR Government. WELS intends to cover the common types of plumbing fixtures and water-consuming appliances. Products participating in WELS will incorporate a water efficiency label that will tell consumers the level of water consumption and water efficiency to help consumers choose water efficient products for water conservation. WELS has been implemented in phases for different groups of plumbing fixtures and appliances.

Currently, WELS covers six types of water consuming devices and appliances, viz. showers for bathing, water taps, washing machines, urinal equipment, flow controllers and water closets.
